ABOUT

Bhavna Sheth, a Mumbai-based artist, has seamlessly transitioned from a 25-year career as a Mathematics teacher to a full-time artist over the past five years. Her profound affinity for art has roots in her early childhood, where she honed her artistic talents alongside her grandmother, an experience that has indelibly marked her artistic journey. Since those formative days, art has become an inseparable facet of her existence, moulding her perception of the world and shaping her creative expressions.

With an innate curiosity and a thirst for exploration, Bhavna ventured into a multitude of artistic mediums, embarking on a creative odyssey that transcends convention. From pottery to woodwork and bamboo craftsmanship, she delved into each medium that piqued her interest, showcasing a relentless passion for artistic diversity. Bhavna's artistic repertoire is a testament to her multifaceted talents, as she has dabbled in diverse forms, including clay work, oil and acrylic on canvas, folk art, and the intricate art of Chitrakathi on mud pots. Her creative journey has even led her to master the craft of constructing Tiki masks from Africa, thereby bridging the cultural chasms through art.

Bhavna's artistic pursuits extend to exploring the rich tradition of Aboriginal art on canvas, breathing fresh life into an age-old art form. Her recent artistic fascination, however, lies in the innovative use of acrylic colours, employing a unique pointillism technique. Drawing inspiration from her extensive travels, Bhavna's canvases serve as a poignant narrative, woven from the threads of life, emotions, and personal experiences. She is not just an artist, but a storyteller, each stroke and dot on her canvas narrating a tale of its own.

Throughout her artistic journey, Bhavna has had the privilege of learning from several local art mentors, who have played a pivotal role in refining her artistic vision and nurturing her creative talents. Her deep-rooted connection with nature is palpable in her work, as she passionately conveys the stories of the natural world, the beauty that surrounds us, and the profound emotions of Mother Earth. Her predilection for detailed and intricate work shines through, resonating with the belief that there are no boundaries on land; in this world, there exists water, land, and sky. Yet, the cultural tapestry and values of people and the land exert an undeniable influence on the human experience, a theme that reverberates in her creations.

In the years to come, Bhavna aspires for her artwork to stand as a unique signature amidst the vast tapestry of artistic expressions. She envisions her creations enriching the beauty of many spaces, leaving an indelible mark on those who encounter her work. Her artistic philosophy reflects the belief that art is akin to music, transcending the need for instruments and words, and, in her case, transcending the limitations of shapes and forms. Colours, shades, and dots converge on her canvas, crafting a symphony of emotions and experiences, akin to a painterly sonata that resonates in the hearts of those who behold her creations.

In the words of the renowned artist Pablo Picasso, "Art is a lie that makes us realise the truth." Bhavna Sheth's journey is a testament to the profound truth that art, in all its myriad forms, possesses the power to transcend, inspire, and illuminate the human experience. With each brushstroke and each intricate dot, Bhavna crafts a visual narrative that resonates with the soul, connecting us to the boundless tapestry of human emotions and the enchanting stories of our world.
